Last week, students and staff viewed the professional performance of "African America," in Folwell's auditorium. The play described one young woman's search for her cultural identity. It was also a celebration of African cultures in Minnesota. Thanks go out to the actors and staff of Mixed Blood for providing such a wonderful learning experience!
On Friday, January 15th a student led MLK Celebration was held in the school auditorium. Students read poetry, sang songs, and presented a slide show to the entire student body and staff. We are all proud of the kids who had the courage to stand in front of a large audience to present and remind us all what Martin Luther King Jr. stood for.
Since 2006, the third Thursday on November has been set aside in Minneapolis Public Schools as Native American Family Involvement Day. This day is designated to recognize the importance of American Indian families being involved in their child's education, and to help to build trust between students, families, and schools. Our day was absolutely fabulous! We had a wonderful local drum group, guest speakers, a talking circle, and a feast! Many thanks to everyone who helped to make this such a wonderful day!
