Welcome to Folwell's Vocal Music Program

This is the sixth full year of our recently developed choral program.  We are excited to be developing this program!  Although a new program is exciting, it is also a lot of hard work!  The students will be working hard developing their skills as singers and musicians.  We will be focusing on breathing techniques, warm-up routines and vocal production.  In addition to vocal techniques, we will focus on achieving good concert etiquette and developing a positive and strong choral community .  Over the course of this year, we will continue to develop rehearsal and performance habits to help our students achieve high quality musicianship.

All choirs this year will focus on sight-singing.  The ability to read music is a skill the students are expected to hold as they enter high school as a musician, and one they will carry with them for life.  However, this is a tough task to accomplish, as it is just like learning a different language.  With the use of Bruce Phelps Sight Singing Methods and SmartMusic, the students will learn how to read music via sol-feg.

We are excited to continue our work with Six Appeal again this year!  Six Appeal will help us work on our confidence and vocal technique.  As an a cappella (without accompaniment) group, they need to focus daily on being strong singers and maintaining their sense of community.

Varsity Choir - Grades 5 & 6

We start the year focusing on communtiy (ensemble) building.  One of the hardest parts of being in a middle level choir is singing in front of your peers.  By community building, we can obtain and develop those important relationships students need in order to be successful in choir.  Currently we are working on poular music to finish off the school year in style!

Students are expected to attend. If they miss, they will perform this makeup assignment to fulfill their obligation to the ensemble.
