Degrees and Licenses

I graduated from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and I have a Masters Degree in Social Work from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, Minnesota. I am a Licensed Graduate Social Worker. I have practiced social work since 1990 and I worked at Hennepin County Children and Family Services where I provided services to adolescent parents, children in foster care and child protective services. I have been a social worker with Minneapolis Public Schools since 2001 and I have worked with elementary, middle and high school students. My current position is at Folwell Performing Arts school, where I am the middle school (5th - 8th grades) social worker.


School Responsibilities

* Serve as a resource and advocate to students and families during the educational planning process.

* Serve as a resource to students and families experiencing crisis or when there is a need and to building staff regarding identifying and reporting child abuse and neglect.

* Consultation with students, parents and staff regarding due process procedures and identifying problems and needs of students.

* Assist in the development of the Individual Educational Programs (IEP) and /or 504 plans for students with disabilities.

* Provide appropriate IEP related services based on student's assessed social/emotional needs.

* Identify, coordinate and make referrals to community resources for students, families and school programs.

* Serve on the school Attendance team.

* Provide individual and group counseling services with students.

* Monitor and facilitate the transition of students with disabilities between schools or programs.


Background Information

I am a lifetime learner and I enjoy reading, outdoor activities (fishing, gardening and enjoying nature) and travelling. I particularly enjoy spending time with my family, friends and the children I serve.
