Dear Students and Families,
Welcome to Fourth Grade!  I am excited about the opportunity to get to know and work with you and am looking forward to a happy and productive school year.  I hope you had a wonderful summer and that you are excited for 4th grade!
Students, we will begin the year by learning about ourselves and each other.  We will build community and explore what we will study in fourth grade.  Please come with an open heart, your bright ideas, and your supplies.
Parents, please assist your child by encouraging them to always do their best.  Parental involvement in a child’s education is one of the strongest indicators of student achievement.  I hope you will make it a priority this year to attend as many school-sponsored events as possible.  We have A LOT of great things happening at Folwell School ~ Performing Arts Magnet!
Parents should expect their child to bring home and show them a daily planner with the day's homework written down in it.  Parents should initial that they've seen it and the student should bring it to school where it is checked.  Communication folders go home every Friday with newsletters, homework, and other important documents.  The folder should return with the student on Monday with any papers that need to be returned.
If you have any questions, concerns, would like to visit our classroom, schedule a conference, or volunteer to help out; you can contact me at 612-668-4550 Main Office or

About Mrs. Likely

I have been teaching in Minneapolis Public Schools since 1987, and loving every minute of it.  I have worked with children in grades 1 through 8 as both a classroom teacher and as a special education teacher in the Minneapolis Autism Program.  I have worked at Emerson, Anthony, Bancroft, Ramsey IFAC, and Folwell.  I am currently part of the Grade 4/5 looping model at Folwell.

I recieved my teaching degree from the University of Minneosta-Duluth.  I have a BA in Elementary Education and Certifications in Special Education K-12 and Autism Spectrum Disorders K-12, and a Master's of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction from St. Thomas University.  As a lifelong learner, I am always reading and studying.  Recently, I have been studying how to better teach Advanced Learners.  I am also working to increase my understanding of equity and culturally responsive classrooms through coursework at the MN Humanities Center.

I believe that learning is a community effort ~ students, families, neighborhoods and schools working together.  I not only teach, but learn from my students ~ their excitement when they see or understand something for the first time makes me appreciate it more!  When I am not teaching and learning with Folwell Firebirds, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends.  I have been married to Jim since 1987; have 2 adult sons, Steven and Caleb; and a dog named Anubis.  We love trying new things and exploring the world around us.  Activities may include but are not limited to: gardening, reading, traveling, singing, playing the piano or clarinet, and taiko drumming.  I perform with Taikollaborative at many local festivals and events.  Please look for us at Mile 9 of the Medtronic Twin Cities marathon, on Sunday, October 7, 2018!

Once again, welcome to Fourth Grade.  Let us work together to make this the best year ever!
