Welcome to 5th grade!

I'm excited for our year together!  5th grade is the cusp of middle school and is a time of great growth.  5th grade social studies focuses on U.S. history and science focuses on the natural environment.  And of course we will do lots of reading and math as well!  Every six weeks we will have a reading goal and celebration for those who complete their goal.  Every week a new vocabulary list will go home to be studied that week in preparation for the test on Friday.  5th graders are expected to practice their vocabulary list and read 30 minutes every day.  They are also expected to complete a math page and turn it in by Friday of the next week and complete any unfinished classwork at home.  Those who complete their work receive free time on Friday.  Parents should expect their son or daughter to bring home and show them a daily planner with the day's homework written down in it.  Parents should initial that they've seen it and the student should bring it to school where it is checked.  Communication folders go home every Friday with newsletters, homework, and other important documents.  The folder should return with the student on Monday with any papers that need to be returned.
